Music Spotlight: HAIM

(I believe that this is my first Music Spotlight surrounding just a band in general, so bear with me on the format of this post.)

Ever heard of HAIM?

They’re a band of sisters (named Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim) who merge this 90’s grunge vibe and electro-pop echo with tight arrangements that almost mimic an autotuned sound, when it’s really just an amazing vocal blend. The sister effect totally works for them here.

They’ve been getting boatloads of attention in 2014 from V Magazine, Nylon, Teen Vogue, and other publications of that nature. Rightfully so too–their music is intoxicatingly fun to listen to. I started listening to them earlier last year, and I just can’t get enough of their sound.

Major props to them for being able to pull of a middle part in their hair, too. That’s an ability that I do not possess nor pretend to possess, but these girls make it work.

HAIM’s on my list of must-see-live bands! Check out my favorite tracks by them below:

“The Wire” MV

“My Song 5” (feat. A$AP Ferg) MV: This music video has A$AP Ferg throw in a verse, which I can’t tell if I like or not (his tone is a great addition, but the actual rap is poorly written). Love his “Talk to me nice or don’t talk to me” at the very beginning, though. The MV has a lot of interruptions, so if you want to hear the song in its untouched glory, listen to “My Song 5” Audio.

“Forever” MV This was the first track I heard by HAIM, around last year. Solid.

Expect a July/August favorites post at the turn of the months into September, and some style posts when it stops feeling like Satan’s living room here in TN.
