WYSLTWRT: Metronomy: “The Bay”
Last month, my family and I took a trip to Michigan to be in my aunt’s wedding (SO to Tita Rocel and Tito Pat!) and I wore this denim/track suit combo on the way home and put a picture of it on my Instagram.
I got a ton of DMs of people asking me to do a blog post on it, so I modified the outfit a bit and came up with this.
I wanted something that I could fall asleep in and not feel restricted on a long car ride, but also not have to worry about how I looked when I got out of the car. If you’re worried about looking put-together during long trips, an all black look is always a great option. No matter what crap you’ve spilled on yourself or if you’ve wrinkled everything to high heaven, the black streamlines the body and still makes you look effortlessly cool.
I am unhealthily in love with this jacket. It’s huge, has this awesome logo and lettering on the back, and is unbelievably soft and in great condition. One of my new favorite thrifted pieces I got in Indiana on the way back.
I’ve been wanting to get black and white Nikes forEVER and I jumped on these babies when my town opened up a new Nordstrom Rack. Not crazy about the place in general, but I got these shoes for a crazy low price. Very happy with my purchase.
As always, I have to give a quick shoutout to Sunglass Spot, for landing me these Wildfox knockoffs for only $10.
The necklace is technically backwards, but I liked the cross effect the metal had, so I flipped the stone to add interest. Also wearing my lightning bolt chain because it was raining that day, and I always wear my lightning bolt necklace on rainy days for luck, or something.
I went for no eyeshadow and just a simple berry tone on my lips so I don’t have to bother with worrying about my eyeliner smudging in my car. Also, according to Marc Jacobs and Francois Nars, wearing makeup is totally not cool anymore. So.
The hood helps a lot when it gets cold or noisy in the car–just pop in your earbuds, throw up your hoodie, and forget everything else.
The entire outfit is extremely forgiving, so there’s plenty of room for you to lounge around and stuff yourself with road trip snacks and the like. Elastic waistlines are your best friends when traveling.
I found this backpack in the back of my mom’s closet and couldn’t help but steal it. It has the perfect size mini pockets for my phone and a pack of mints (all the easy-access stuff). There’s ample room in the main compartment for my wallet and a novel. Having the backpack keeps my hands free for whatever and prevents me from over-packing.
That’s all for today’s look! Let me know what else you’d like to see or if you want tips on how to dress for specific occasions. Ask me on my instagram @ErinKaelie or tweet me at @ProjectMaganda.
A music spotlight will probably come up within the next week or so, so be prepared for that. Thanks for your patience these past months! Really appreciate all your support.
