Girl Next Floor: A Day in Chattanooga
WYSLTWRT: Moonchild “The List”
Hi friends! An update for you all: I now technically have a college degree. Graduation was gorgeous and fun and very WARM and I almost melted in the black gown that probably could have doubled as a lazy witch costume if not for the college seal. That, in addition to a square piece of cardboard on my head with a tassel hanging off the sharp end of a nail (my cap knob fell off minutes before the procession), I was the epitome of high fashion. If that sounds glamorous to you, I will do a graduation outfit post per request.
Anywho, one thing I got to do during Spring Break to catch some respite from the stress of co-directing a show and taking quizzes on books I hadn’t read or didn’t understand and preparing for an Associates degree that doesn’t really give me any merit in the workforce (#EmoryExcellence) was spend a couple days in Chattanooga with my parents. Right outside our hotel sat the Tennessee River and an interesting park of stairs to nowhere outside the Tennessee Aquarium. Here’s what I wore while we explored the area.
This Target Romper–which, I must report, has been regretfully retired due to a tragic laundry shrinking incident–sat on me a little funny when I first bought it. The back tie was long enough for me to wrap it around the front and prop up the waistline to be as tight as I wanted it to be and add a little interest to the front.
Since I got this romper, I’ve become extremely fond of the wrap-around silhouette. Some of the shirts I’ve gotten since then with the same design have been a little more unruly in terms of keeping the ladies covered, but a simple chest snap on this romper keeps me in check at all times.
The sweater has 3/4 length sleeves and a nice deep olive color to break up the simple light gray ensemble. Plus it covers up the wild diaper-looking situation in the back of the romper from my Macgyver-ed waist tie.
Also: bangs! The result of an hour alone in my room and a couple more hours of work to do. Could have gone worse.
These suede slingback shoes have served as a nice semi-formal addition to my shoe collection. They’re comfortable and set themselves apart from my more casual brown shoes.
I have been feeling really comfortable with myself lately. Not comfortable with who I could be with a little exercise, or by changing my diet, or by doing anything other than just living the way I want to–just feeling good. No conditions. I don’t know how long it will last, but for now I will try to cherish and maintain these feelings of pride and happiness and security in my skin. I am taking these moments of confidence and documenting them for time when I can’t remember what it feels like to like myself.
Lookbook? Lookbook.
That’s all for this post! Thanks for reading.
